Trying to find your way through cancer treatment can feel like being trapped in a maze and quickly becomes overwhelming.  It's wise to take someone you trust with you to all appointments to help find your way through it all.

My Neighborhood Colors

The bright orange tree in our backyard is tilted, I wonder how many years it will take to fall onto the house.  The bush in the front is a popular spots for birds to land right before jumping to the birdbath or the feeder.  It gets so red this time of year that it nearly looks fake, and it's full of orange/red berries that the birds love!

Looking down my driveway, this is what I'm greeted with across the road.

Just having a bad day. I feel like the dying leaves spread everywhere, the sap drained out, my color fading, disintegrating. I find things start looking up quicker if I just admit that things seem bleak, then pick myself up, dust myself off and keep on keeping on.

The fisheye on the Canon 50D and down on the ground. I do not know why but things have been very tough lately. I just have a lot of things going through my mind. A list of things I want to change and trying to get my head around how to make that happen. Really not cancer related, although a result of having had cancer. Bites!  And I just have to keep reminding my family, "Don't poke the bear!"

Getting out of the house

Awakening

I love watching the leaves emerge in the spring. But I was really amazed that my big rose bushes did not survive the winter, yet this little one, the kind you usually keep in the house, woke back up. Very odd.

A high price to pay

So I bought a cute little seed bell for my bird friends.  My husband helped me hang it, then the next day we found it on the ground.  What happened?

See that pinkish/red?  What the heck?

Then we found blood on some leaves.

Ouch - this gave me the heebie jeebies, did I transfer them to you?

Then we looked up and discovered what happened to the seed bell.  It had been in the netting.  Mr Squirrel thought he would like some and in his eagerness he chewed through the net, knocking down the bell, and apparently leaving behind a chunk of tail.  Ewwww!

I feel kind of bad for the squirrel, I have not yet figured out which squirrel is missing a chunk of tail. . .but I wonder, if I hang up another bell, will he be back?  Did he learn anything at all?

Leaf me chilly

There's something magical in a mountain of fallen leaves, so crisp and refreshing on a cool autumn day.

Then the snow start to pelt your head and you are quickly reminded that winter is on her way.

We had the earliest snow that I've seen since we've lived up here - October 12th!

Of course, it didn't stick around, thankfully!

And it did provide some interest for a few photos. :)

It's been pretty wet here lately, pretty on the leaves, but tiring on my head, lol.

Getting into nature

September 21st:

When I want to get out in the woods, but don't have a lot of time, I just walk across the street and walk the path there.

There are many raspberries in the summer and we have a freezer full now.

The only competition was the deer, chipmunks and birds.

The dragonflies would land nearby but I don't think they eat the berries.

As I walked into the clearing/playground I couldn't resist the moon's pull.

Then a bluebird drew my attention momentarily.

On the way to take my berries inside I spied a spider and her eggs.

Yummy!

October 8th:

Two weeks later and the leaves have changed. I wanted to show the sky that we get to see so many months of the year. In fact, this sky has more blue in it. Most of our winter is spent with white skies and ground.

This is a view towards the road from the side of our house. The trees leaves are now gone, and the bush is totally red and losing leaves every day.

They sure were beautiful the short time they were here. This is the large tree in our back yard, it's always so bright towering over our home.

And I always love the color of the leaves against the white bark - the background has kind of lines - that was snow pelting me while I snapped.

I just loved this rock wall - from our trip to Washington Island earlier this month.

And we enjoyed walking this road while on the island. Fall was SO short here!

October 27th:

Twister and I walked the path to the park, he has the raspberry bushes on either side of him, as you can see they're done too. You can't see many trees, but trust me, all leaves are gone.

We had a day of sunshine and warmth - I think it was in the 40s, lol - so we took advantage of it.

On our trek back home we discovered this nest, funny that it must have been there, right across the road from my home, all summer and I never knew it was there, until the leaves fell.

After we got home Twister put the eyes, nose, and mouth on this little pumpkin for his mom and dad. He did it all by himself; I did not hold his hand.  I think he did very good!   He's only 2 years old. Such a big boy! Now if he'd only talk to me. :(
