Roseate Spoonbill
I was SO excited to see a flash of pink in swamp. I quickly drew, took aim and shot, shot, shot - but as you can see, it wasn't in the cards to get a fantastic shot. I should have jacked my ISO up more when we drove through shadows in the early morning, but I didn't and, well. . .there ya go.
Second snap was no better than the first, in fact, we have an intruder passing through the frame. Oh well.
Then the spoonbill decided to flee the scene as well. So, a phenomenal, rock your world photo was not to be, but I did enjoy actually seeing one in person.

Just a Big Cypress Jaunt
There's a little bird up there somewhere, we heard him from the trail, never did spot him though.
We did spot some oranges and grapefruit though.
I never knew that orange trees have thorns! Ouch.
We all sent Haden up anyway. He came down with a lot of oranges and a few scratches.
The grapefruit were a wee bit easier to get too. Not much though, lol.
No critters on this trip, but we did keep our eyes open for panthers and alligators. If they were near, we never saw them.

What's for breakfast?
I'm not much of a morning person and it looks like this Wood Stork isn't either, lol.
I do love early morning lighting, even though I don't like early morning so much.
The reflections are pretty nice too. But while these birds are looking for breakfast they better beware. . .
I would guess he has a pretty big appetite.
Am I evil that I actually wanted to see a gator snag some breakfast?
Oh, btw I have added some new photos to my gallery for purchase. The link to get there is at the bottom of the page, way down there. :0)

Exploring the Everglades
After sleeping in Big Cypress, camping deep in the no-where, lol we traveled back down the 18 miles of potholes and continued to explore. (Dennis posted some great photos that he took from our campsite, sunrise on the long bumpy road and such over here) Occasionally we got out of the car to walk a path or such and a few times I asked Haden to snap a quick photo of us. So here we are after surviving the long (scary) night, lol.
We did travel another dirt road - I think it was called the loop - into the everglades and were greeted by views like these from time to tome.
At one point we even ran into the end of the Florida Trail, I think the sign said it was 18 miles to the visitor's center, which means it was also 18 miles to the next road.
Most of the road looked like this. Yeah, not a lot of other cars and we could easily just stop in the road, get out, snap a few pics, then continue on. It was a great adventure! I must say I felt much safer exploring this way than hiking for miles, it made me nervous leaving the road and traipsing down paths. I would get so caught up in getting closer to birds I feared I would step on a gator, lol.
