Have you ever been to the Grand Canyon of Texas? After playing at the Cadillac Ranch for a while we headed south of Amarillo to Palo Duro Canyon State Park.
The Canyon is 120 miles long, as much as 20 miles wide, and has a maximum depth of more than 800 feet. Its elevation at the rim is 3,500 feet above sea level. It is often claimed that Palo Duro Canyon is the second largest canyon in the United States. The largest, the Grand Canyon, is 277 miles long, 18 miles wide, and 6,000 ft. deep.
~quoted from Palo Duro Canyon dot com.
Although this was my second time there, the funny thing is I really haven’t taken any photos of the canyon. The first time we were there we biked like crazy, wiping out, brushing ourselves off and biking some more. This time the guys hiked to a cave to explore a bit and I guarded the car (not really) and snapped photos of flowers and birds. I’ll show you some of the cool flowers I saw today then we’ll do the birds tomorrow. If you want to see the canyon I’m afraid you’ll have to click the link up there.
Thanks for the reminder with the feed reader, doh ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd these flowers are great! I can almost smell them :)!
Gorgeous flowers! Love the one with the bee. (Just so you know, when you typed "click" in the text...the paragraph after the block quote, the c and l smoosh together and look like the word "dick." I just though you would like to know!
ReplyDeleteWonderful flowers and shots of them! Thanks for the tour...especially since Texas isn't on my bucket list :-)

ReplyDeleteWhoa Lisa - these are SPECTACULAR!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous flowers! I love wildflowers!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be cleaning up my links and Feeds, I'll be sure to change yours!
Too bad you didn't get any bluebonnets. I've never been to the canyon, but hubby thinks the biggest horse flies on the planet live there.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOutstanding, Lisa. Your photos made me think of Rachel Carson. She's be so pleased.
ReplyDeleteGeorgeous flowers. Love the ants on the sunflower. Wild sunflowers always seem to be full of ants. Don't recognize the phallic looking flowers with the yellow/orange petals, I really like those shots.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous flower photos and bird ones as well.
ReplyDeleteI got a kick out of the picnicking shot! The flower ones awed my daughter!
