The butterflies have been out in abundance and with the exception of this first photo (taken in my yard), I saw these in the Sandhill Wildlife Refuge in Babcock, Wisconsin.
There was a stupid blade of grass in my way for this one, but it’s the only one I got so what the heck.
I’m afraid I don’t know my butterflies very well, but I thought it was neat to see this one sipping nectar.
Apparently, gravel attracts like the flowers? Or maybe he was trying to hide from me.
So cool! I love the spots of bright color on the wings.
ReplyDeleteStupid, stupid blade of grass.
ReplyDeleteBut AWESOME butterflies!
Those blasted distractions...I feel for ya! A nice variety of butters you got to see...especially like the picture of the one sipping.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images! And for the last one - what he/she's doing is mudpuddling!
ReplyDeleteThey take on needed minerals that way.
Cheers, Klaus
i love the grey one with orange spots! Oh, and as far as the gravel goes, i am no butterfly expert, but i've read somewhere that they are attracted to the minerals in the dirt!
ReplyDeletevery pretty. thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteDang I want that camera!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots, Lisa!
What a nice variety of pretty butterflies! Love this post!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful Lisa! I have yet to get a shot that I love of a butterfly - perhaps I should look for gravel! :)
ReplyDeleteWow! Those photos are incredible. We have the rudest butterflies here in Florida. They refuse to pose and will sit still only if there is no camera around. I'm beginning to think I stand a better chance of getting a picture of a unicorn than of a butterfly LOL
ReplyDeleteWow, you captured a great variety!
ReplyDeleteThese are great, Lisa. Really great. I have seen these rascals settle on the sand, too. They like the warmth, maybe?
ReplyDeleteThose are awesome! wow!
ReplyDeletebeatiful butterflies mine is up too!

I very much enjoyed the butterfly photos. Try as I might, I’ve never had success trying to capture them with my camera. They’re each so unique! Just lovely … thanks for sharing.
