So many above ground graves, very cool looking.
Beads are not something I'm used to seeing in a cemetery.

Not sure why one stone is in the pathway. . .In the background you can see an abandoned house with many vines covering it.
And another one here. I'm assuming these houses were damaged in Katrina.

ReplyDeleteWe have the opposite graveyard near here, all the grave markers are flush with the ground. It's kinda spooky.

It's a popular fiction that the above ground tombs are due to the water table and associated issues. In fact, the practice arises out of French and Spanish traditions, which speaks then, to the origins of New Orleans and the habit of its founders.
