Peek-a-boo!

slightly flawed, still focused

I decided to give Camera Critters a try, I sure hope I'm doing my first post right, if not just let me know and I'll try to do better next time. :)

While I was playing with the settings on my camera, increasing the depth of field. . .

. . .and decreasing the dof, I noticed the flower had something a little extra on it.

It appears to be a tee-tiny, nearly microscopic, clear, see-through, slug? He sure boogied, slithered and slimed, himself all over the flower while I was snapping away.

That little dark spot on him, is actually in him, maybe his organs (or poo?)?

Needless to say, every single shot I took that day was marred, in some way, by his presence. That’s mostly because I had taken about 30 shots before I even noticed he existed!

Cole Overload

Aren’t baby piggies the best? These are one week old piggies, still slightly wrinkly and perfect!

Bright eyed and bushy tailed.

Or maybe not.

It’s daddy’s job to burp baby Cole.

Then mama admires him some more.

Uh-oh, it’s time for a diaper change and the weeing on dad moments.

Clean diaper and Cole is happy once more. He’s still so young that he hasn’t lost his umbilical cord. It amazed me that he liked to be so stretched out, often newborns like to stay in balls.

This is one of my favorites, Dennis handed the 5D to his daughter and she snapped a few photos of her baby. What I like about this photo is that Cole’s eyes are open and he seems to be looking at his mom and asking her why she looks so funny.

It was fun watching dad with the baby too. He smiled so much when he looked at his son.

Do you like his little tuxedo? He’s ready for the ball.

Tiny fingers are just as precious as itty bitty piggies!

The Nuisance Twins

This photo is over a year old but here you see my favorite squirrel. We have a couple of different ones that come into our yard but she, lady with fuzzy ears, is my favorite and I really don’t mind too much when she steals some seed.

This spring she had twins. They’re a lot of fun to watch running and scampering and playing with each other. But getting both of them in one shot proved difficult.

I think they are as curious about me as I am about them.

And this stupid chipmunk, yeah, I got a little fed up with chipmunks this summer. They kept stealing our tomatoes off the vine so we finally bought a live trap (placed it between the tomato plants) and relocated some of them. I don’t think they have large territories so I really think the ones we have moved out have stayed out but we still have plenty. The first day the trap was out we caught eight of them, and each day after that at least two a day, every single day for a month and we still have plenty! We have a highway very near our house so we put them on the other side of the highway hoping that would keep them away.

Anyway, this stupid chipmunk wanted to play with the squirrels but they were having none of that.

A part of me wishes I was this limber, but then again I don’t think I would like scratching my butt with my mouth.

Charge!

Hiding in the bush waiting for me to leave so it can get some more birdseed.

They’re everywhere! It’s a love/hate relationship!

Too bad the babies can’t have their mama’s furry beige ears.

Not a striped gopher

A few weeks ago (where is the time going?!) I showed you a cute little Thirteen-lined Ground Squirrel I found in Iowa. Well, it wasn’t long after that (yes, I‘m that far behind in looking at my photos - but I figure maybe it‘ll help me get through the long winter of limited photo ops), I found some more in our favorite local park.

These squirrels are about the size of our chipmunks but have smaller ears and more stripes. Would you believe they plug up their holes at night? I still like their other name of Federation Squirrels.

A couple of days later, I went back to the park and found several babies popping up out of their holes and just generally being curious. They allowed me to sit and snap at them for a while.

Peek-a-boo!

It’s hard to believe they can run up to 8 mph.

They will start hibernating soon, maybe they already have. They’re one of the longest true hibernators in Wisconsin.

I just love babies!
