Hummingbird

IMG_0989

We don't normally have hummingbirds in our yard, so you can imagine the joy when I spotted one. I quickly hung up some food and he/she came back, time and again.

If I could move as fast as a hummingbird for just one hour imagine all I could accomplish! I wouldn't even need to hide from the world, I could just zip here and zip there, barely noticed.

Voluntary Pets

IMG_6148

Very soon my parents will be here. It will be the first time they have visited in the summer, the last time they were here was 3 1/2 years ago, for Tristan's birth. This time they are coming for Mikal's wedding.

They'll be bringing their dogs with them, but I can't help but wonder how their voluntary pets will fair while they are gone.

Who will feed the birds?

Let's all say a little prayer that they will manage while their caretakers are away, especially this little blind finch.

Chaos much?

IMG_5930

There's been lots of excitement going on around here! Three mornings ago I finally got a visual on the large-sounding woodpecker I've been hearing in our backyard. It IS a Pileated and I can't wait to get photos of it, but so far no luck. I've been hearing him for about a month and this was the first time I've seen him - fingers crossed I'll be able to snap a shot of him soon.

Then two mornings ago, I went to let my dogs out and discovered this feathered friend sitting on the kitchen floor. My husband had left the sliding door open a bit when he went to work for the dogs and the bird came in. Brodi had a hold of him for a moment but he got free and flew up to the window above the sink and sat there for a few photos.

I opened the door all the way and he did go back out, thankfully! Yesterday morning, the SAME thing happened only it was a little finch who came in and she went right back out, lol.

Our New Friend

We had this happen a few years ago with a hummingbird, lol. Seems birds really like us!
