Magical Macro Monday

Again with my iPhone, wow I need to dig my Dslr out, lol. These were blooming at my Mom and Dad's when we visited last month.

I never even noticed the little fellow nestled in until I started to spot it here.

Do you see him now?

PLEASE pray for my hometown, Joplin, MO. A horrible tornado went through there and demolished much of what I knew for 30+ years of my life. :( My family is all ok, one is now homeless, but all are still alive.

tulip

Tip of the day for encouraging an ill friend:

Don't share horror stories of illness, hospitals, surgeries, none of it.

Do plant some bulbs in his/her yard that will come up in the spring.

eastern skunk cabbage

IMG_0709

Generating enough heat to melt the snow around it, Skunk Cabbage is one of the first spring flowers to bloom. It survives and blooms despite the frigid cold in a Wisconsin winter. Our lives are full of challenges, but we too can thrive even in difficult situations.

Skunk Cabbage is one of the first plants blooming in the spring, often blooming while snow is still on the ground. It grows in swampy/boggy areas as you can see here.

After a winter of white, the first glimpse of green leaves and yellow blooms sings in my soul!  As one of the first flowers of spring, the daffodil is a symbol of hope.

Macro Monday winter blooms

IMG_6986

I am really enjoying my first Amaryllis.  And Valentine's Day seemed like a good time to share the gorgeous red blooms.  Happy Valentine's day!

The blooms are a nice splash of color against the dreary winter.

Amaryllis ~ Macro Monday #123

IMG_6718

I had to poke the camera in my first Amaryllis bloom. No doubt. : )  I didn't realize the stalk put out more than one bloom.  I'm loving the burst of color amongst all the white.  But, what do I do with the bulb when it's done blooming?

I have never tried my hand at the Amaryllis bulbs because I didn't figure I would have any luck. But, they had them on sale and it was already poking out of the box, so. . .

Viola! I did it! :)

Roses are Red

080910

Life comes with thorns.  Thankfully, the sweet smell of the roses help ease the pain, and wash away the memory of how bad the stick really was.  When we concentrate on the frilly delicate petals, and the intricacy of their making, we are led down a better path.  This plant is able to survive the frigid winter and awaken in the spring to bring more beauty to summer.  I was able to survive chemotherapy and begin to bloom again.
