An unlucky outing

Camera Critters

lc1089

We decided to go to Wabasha Minnesota and take a look for some eagles. Unfortunately, they didn’t get the memo. This is the closest we got.

When I tried to get a little closer, he took off.

Oh well, better luck next time.

I tried sneaking up on the Pileated Woodpecker, but he took off too. It just wasn’t a good day.

  1. Well....I think you got some good shots anyway! Probably not as close as you would have liked, but I hope you had a good road trip anyway!

  2. Some days are like that, yeah they are! You have a pretty good success ratio though...

  4. That has been my luck since I got my new telephoto, I swear I almost could walk up to the hawks before, not off they go before I even get close.

  7. Those are still great shots considering you were at a distance.

Those pileated woodpeckers are tricky guys to get good photos of.

  19. It happens sometimes. I am sure you will get those shots you want in the near future. I wish my country offers as much in the area of nature photography!

  20. I don't know! That's a pretty great shot of the eagle flying away!

  21. What is it about these big birds, once you turn your car off they are gone! Their instincts are amazing. Nice images all the same.

  22. I think raptors in general are more like that than most birds. I've never been able to sneak up on one -- of any variety. But man do they ever make a striking silhouette in flight!

Love that splash of red on the woodpecker. It jumps out of the scene like a flare gun! Sweet shot!

  24. Wow, You got eagle shots too. They are awesome creatures. I was not lucky enough to get a close up of one in flight yet. Only sitting on a branch and flying in a distance.
    Have a great week.

  25. I think you did quite well, really. Some of my birding days recently have been birdless.
