New Vermont friends

Camera Critters 1st Anniversary

lc2019

We scared up a red squirrel while geocaching in Vermont.

And there were several Bobolinks around, but they never do cooperate with me very well.

We saw more butterflies than fossils at the Goodsell Ridge Fossil Preserve.

Goodsell Ridge contains the most complete fossil record of the world’s oldest reef dating back over 480 million years ago. On Goodsell Ridge, between stands of cedars and clusters of purple clematis and snowy aster, the ancient bedrock juts out from the soil, displaying in swirls and fossils organisms of extraordinary antiquity. ~Lake Champlain Land Trust

Haden found a wasp busy building a nest on a rock.

I thought these fish were pretty cool, but I don’t know what they are. They seemed to be fighting.  We found them at Chazy Reef at Isle LaMotte, along with the turtles of a few days ago.

Hope you are having a great weekend!  And Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there!

North Hero, Vermont

lc2000

This was our beautiful view everyday while in North Hero Vermont.

lc2012

Before we go any further I want you to comprehend exactly where I was. I really didn’t know much about Vermont - if you’re like me you think of beautiful fall leaves when you hear “Vermont”. While I still don’t know much, I do know that Burlington is the largest city there and it has a population of less than 40,000! Vermont is small! We could happily live in Burlington - beautiful! But back on track here.

lc2011

North Hero is a small island in Lake Champlain. Lake Champlain is celebrating it’s 400th year this year and is supposedly the home to Champ - although we never saw him. The world slows down there. It was so peaceful and relaxing I could have stayed for ages.

We got to explore the islands a little while everyone was working. You see, Dennis’s folks are up helping with the North Hero House Inn, so they still had to work while we were there. And Dennis’s aunt works there too. His cousin and partner own and operate the Inn. Hmm, wonder if they need a permanent photographer or two. . .

So, we had some time during the days to wonder the islands and enjoy nature.

Can’t you just feel how slow life is there? If you want to revive I recommend spending some time at the Inn, but beware, the restaurant may add a few pounds to your waistline with their spectacular food!

My chaotic life

I really feel like I need to apologize for being so slow visiting you guys lately. My life has been overwhelmingly busy and I haven't been sitting much. I find myself trying to prepare my post at about 10pm every night for the next morning and I don't like that either.

First up we are preping for a garage sale this weekend - exhausting! I have spent two full days in our garage pricing things. Btw, what do you call them in your area? Garage Sale, Rummage Sale, Sale, or something else?

I haven't mentioned the diet thing recently so let's talk about that. I'm down 41 lbs!  Yippee! Well, guess I had less to say on that than I thought - my mind is just kinda everywhere right now.

Important - My husband is from Honduras - you knew that, right? Well, this month we will celebrate our 6th anniversary (been together 8 yrs). And I have never met his parents, they still live in Honduras - but they are currently up here!  Two weeks from today we will be driving to North Hero Vermont, where Dennis' cousin has an Inn (his parents are helping with the Inn for the summer). I am so nervous about meeting them, especially since I don't speak Spanish!

We have decided to make a vacation of the trip and I'm totally wigging out (do people still say that) with excitement! I will give you all the itinerary later but for now:

Doesn't this look fun!?! Yep, we're booked.  We'll be on the water for 8 hours.  Dennis and I went white water rafting in New Mexico a few years back on the Rio Grande but Haden has never been,  I think he's pretty excited.

And, because we're going in May we have to wear wetsuits and now I'm all worried. . .well, I can't 'hold it' for 8 hours!  I just can't.  I'm so worried about not being able to go for that long that I almost can't get excited about having fun.  I've been told to just go in the suit but that sounds really gross and I just can't.  Diapers?  Maybe I just don't drink the day before?  Anybody know anything about it?

Oh yeah, this is booked too!  Well be on the water 3 1/2 - 4 hours for this excursion, but much tamer than the rapids I would imagine. :)  I've never been whale watching before and I sure hope we see some whales, and some Puffins.  Hope I don't get seasick. (Am I a chronic worrier?)

Then another day we will be going out, once again, for about 2 hours to watch lobsters and seals. :)  I'm kinda thinking our "vacation" may be exhausting. :)  But at least it will be exhausting in a fun way!

I'm really proud of my husband.  He has actually booked all of our motel rooms, campgrounds, and fun things, almost a month a head of time!  Impressive!   I still remember my first vacation with this man, I think he might (huge might) have booked our campsite at Yellowstone, but the rest of the trip was winged.  We pretty much just got in the car with a general direction we wanted to go, loaded up the camping gear and bikes and went.   He's growing up. :)

PS - Maine is on my bucket list. :)  And soon to be checked off.

Maybe we'll be lucky enough to see Champ in Lake Champlain while we're visiting family- how cool would that be?!!

FYI Now, just a heads up, while we're gone I am going to limit my computer time.  I wanna enjoy the vacation so I probably won't be on here much, heck we're camping 4 days and I bet there won't even be internet there.  So I'm just letting you know now that there'll be about 10 days with no posts.  Having said that, I will prepare Macro Monday's ahead of time so you guys can still all play.
