She came back!

image

The little house finch who tried to build a nest in my bird feeder a few weeks ago came back! I'm so excited to share this journey with her!
This was my first attempt at using the wordpress app for android, I think it went pretty smoothly.  I may try this from time to time when I snap a photo on the cell that I'd like to share, but don't expect many words when I do, lol.

Not a solitary bee

h1

When I was going through cancer and chemotherapy it affected more than just me. I still had children living at home, depending on me, and it changed them, their outlooks on life, and goals for their futures. My husband was a huge support, keeping me going through some of the toughest times and celebrating with me during the good times. And my parents, grandparents, extended family and friends helped make times a little easier or brighter too. I think it's much easier to celebrate remission with a whole colony of people, each one necessary. If I had been a solitary bee, the road would have felt much longer.

Brown Thrasher

g1

It always seems to be,
I do not see what I set out to see,
but sometimes. . .
I see something better.

Before today, I've only seen the Brown Thrasher one other time. I wasn't able to get very close to that one. But today I found a pair of them, I wasn't even looking, they called to me and I followed. I still would have liked to get closer.

Fishbusterz

We spent a little time on the water while we were in the Florida Keys. Dennis paddled Haden out while I stayed behind snapping birds and such, then he took me out to snap anemones and critters. After all that we were a little hungry and went in search of a place to eat.

We decided to give Fishbusterz a try after looking at a few websites (Dang their site is down, I really wanted you to see it).  We did NOT know what we were in for, but that's not always a bad thing.

All outdoor seating behind a warehouse looking building on a dirt road, in fact we weren't sure we were in the right place at first. We finally saw a little sign and narrow walkway between warehouses.

We gambled a walk towards the docks and found seating available.

A huge door the waitresses went in and out of.

Their specials were whatever they caught that day. Talk about fresh, right?! I don't do seafood but Dennis had plenty and I had a great burger.

The waitresses were great and we were able to watch the sunset from our table on the dock, looking out over water and boats.

If you make it to Key West Florida I recommend checking them out! You won't be disappointed!

Look closer

f1

It's funny that before my cancer diagnosis I really wasn't interested in photography. Sure I took some photos, but they were quick snapshots, proof that I had been somewhere, or documenting my children growing. After going through chemo, my eyes opened to the world around me and I became interested in trying to capture my view, with the hopes of waking others up.  Too many of us walk through our days unseeing.

I have grown fond of my macro lens, never knowing what details I'll find in some of the simplest things.  I didn't see the spider on the bud when I began to snap some photos of the emerging flower in a gentle rain. Only after lining up a few shots did I discover the 1/4 spider lapping up the rain droplets.

Bouncing

e1

Some days there are so many thoughts pinging through my head that I feel like a bouncing ball. I hate the day that I heard the words, "We found cancer" - it replays in my mind often. So many emotions go with those words, so many thoughts come and go. Did I make the right choices? What could I have done to avoid it? Was there anything that I could have done? What if it comes back? Where do I go from here? But, there are no answers. So, I remind myself to breathe, just breathe, be thankful for remission, and open my eyes to all the simple joys in each day.
