Weather Thoughts

If you could add one month to the calendar year, inserting it between two existing months, where would you put the extra 30 days? (You can assume that the weather for this month will be a mix of the weather typical of the month preceding it and following it.)

I took this photo back in November, during the first snowfall. I have this fascination with snow that demands we get out in it every time it starts falling. Luckily, my husband acquiesces to my urges. What struck me, and made me snap, was the bright clear sky shown in the mirror, as opposed to the grey, snowing sky right above us. I just hadn’t figured out a post to share it in, until now.

So, where would I put those extra 30 days? I am really torn, a part of me truly loves the snow. But I think my favorite time of year in Wisconsin is May and June, so I would stick it right between them. The temps are gentle, warm enough to enjoy the outdoors, yet not stifling hot (like it’s ever stifling up here). And after our long winter I enjoy being able to get back out.

Wisconsin River Mystery

You may be sitting there wondering what is significant, or unusual, about this shot. This is the Wisconsin River in Stevens Point and normally the water is clear up to the trees. And deep enough to not be waded across.

But one day in August, the water vanished (I forgot I had these photos until I stumbled across them). At first we wondered if the river had just miraculously drained, like Lake Delton in Wisconsin Dells earlier in the year.

But no, the dam was opened to purposely drain the water so the riverbed could be cleaned up.

Water, people, there’s supposed to be water over all of the sand you see, water deep enough for boats.

Haden was more interested in picking up crawdads than trash.

BTW - Did you know the little icon/flower/stamp looking things over there on the left are links?  And if you move your mouse over them you will see words?

READER QUESTION: And I'm feeling nosey, if you wanted to, say, bake some brownies but you were one egg short would you go to your neighbor's house to borrow one?  Or would you drive to the store to get more?  Or would you just forget about baking brownies right then?

MY ANSWER: As for me, a few days ago I wanted to make some brownies and I was low on eggs and after I contemplated the way of things - the way I used to borrow from my neighbors and they from me - and the way that at least the last six places I've lived we never borrowed anything from each other, heck we barely say 'hi!' - and I wondered if it's just changes in me, or if it's the norm of the world, or if maybe when kids were small and I had neighbors with small kids we just felt more like family, and well. . .it just made me wonder if knocking on your neighbor's door to borrow a slice of bread, or a bit of ketchup, a cup of sugar, etc has just went the way of typewriters.  Then I put the mixer away and although I finally made it to the store to get eggs, I still haven't made those brownies.

Reader Question

I'm hosting this week's Fun Monday, welcome aboard!

I know, I know, I was the one who came up with this question thing, but boy it was hard!  See, hubby suggested ‘20 Questions’ and I told him that would be too much work for the people coming over to comment, so maybe 5 would work, but wow, we have so many players that that would still be a lot of work, so I cut it down to one question.

‘Only one?’  I whine!  I have a bunch of things I would like to know about my readers but since I gave the limitation of one question I guess I need to abide by my own rules.  Maybe I’ll ask a question periodically until I’m all questioned out, but for today:

Question: If you were going to get a tattoo, what would you get, and would it have some significance?  Feel free to tell about any tattoos you do already have. (Notice how that isn’t a second question - I’m good! *wink*)

My Answer: I have been wanting to get a tattoo for a few years and I think it would be really neat to have something small, that I could add onto each year on the anniversary of my cancer survivorship. I just can’t figure out what to get, nor where to put it.  I would welcome any ideas.  PS - I’m really scared it will hurt.

Since my question wouldn’t be complete without a photo, here’s my step-daughter, Marissa, and her friend showing of their tattoos. (I have shown this photo in the past).  Marissa got her tattoo to honor some of her friends who have died.  She’s currently very pregnant with our second grandson and I wonder what her tattoo looks like right now. :)

Let's go see what everyone wants to know and try to give some answers.  Or maybe we'll get to learn about a new bird, guess we'll find out when we get there.

Canadian Question

To you guys I am boring today, but to hubby, maybe I'll be fabulous when he gets home tomorrow. :)  I am busy doing more spring cleaning and running out enjoying the beautiful sunshine we have and trying to get some new bird photos.  So far a couple of bluebirds have cooperated.

While I was out and about I caught stuck waiting for a train and while I still have not been able to get a photo of what I'm going to ask, I am hoping someone knows what I'm talking about.  We get a lot Canadian rail cars up here and one in particular has given me pause.  Why do some of the cars have a kangaroo carrying a Canadian flag?  What company is that and the story behind it?  I hope you guys know because I am puzzled.
