Allergic to Travel

I think I’m allergic to travel. More often than not, when I travel I end up with a sinus infection. It starts out innocent enough, a night in a motel then the next morning I wake up with sniffles, then the sneezing, and my head feels like a huge balloon. It really taints the joys of the places we visit and leaves me just trying to get over it when we get home. I would love to find a way to prevent it.

I managed to take a few shots in Missouri during our whirlwind visit. Marissa and Cole did not end up coming – long drama story there. I’ve spent the last few days trying to recoup. But, tonight we’ll be going up north for the weekend, to photograph the activities at the Angel on my Shoulder's Camp Angel.

This shoe birdhouse hangs in a Magnolia tree in my parents’ yard. They have many birdhouses all over their acreage.

I picked this one up a few years ago for my dad. It’s the only one like it I’ve ever seen and it seemed appropriate for him since he used to have a camera store.

Camera Safety While Traveling

Can we talk for a minute? Do you have an old car seat sitting around? Do you fret about where to sit your camera while you’re driving down the road? I have a solution!

My camera is my baby, why not treat it like one? I don’t give it a bottle, although I feed it freshly charged batteries. I don’t change its diaper, but do wipe off its “eye”. For months, I tried to figure out where to place it in the car that it would be safe and still easier to get to than it’s Pelican case. Then a light bulb went off. The baby seat is perfect! It’s padded, has an adjustable belt and a sunshade.

Even Tristan’s big boy seat can stay in the car and be used by the camera when he’s not here.

Look how safe it looks. Makes you wanna go out and buy a safety seat doesn’t it?

My Camera Equipment

Cameras have always been in my life a little more than in most people's.  But I really wasn't interested in them, at all, until recently.  I think the first time I confessed my love was February 2007. I had no idea how much my world of photography would change when we brought home that first digital SLR in September 2007.  And, as I imagine, you can see by the list below we have jumped in with both feet.

You may be asking yourself why Canon, why not Nikon?  My only answer would be that it was neck and neck for a long time; we knew that whichever way we went would predict our entire future choices.  We would be buying a second camera body at some point and sharing all the lenses.  Nikon and Canon lenses mount differently so both camera bodies had to be one or the other.  Then we were told that Canon has slightly better glass (lenses) and we took the leap into a Rebel XTi.

It is my hope to compile a list of our various cameras and lenses, along with full reviews, to make it easier for people to answer those questions, "What camera are you using?" or "What lens are you using?"  The first one is coming soon and you should start seeing the words below turn into links to keep all of the reviews in one easy to find location.
