It has been a very long time since I have played Fun Monday but Jill made it next to impossible to resist. She asked us to share our experiences homemade gifts. . .
This is the third year I've made our Christmas cards, people seem to like them. I love to paper craft! This year I just made this one design and it was pretty quick. Now I need to actually mail them, lol.
My mom often makes quilts and as you can see with my grandson, they are huge hits!
One of my blogger friends, Snowcatcher, shares a new crocheted snowflake pattern, of her own design, every single Monday. I have not crocheted since I was a wee girl, with my grandma. These snowflakes have kicked my butt! It took me hours of trying to just get simply one to not look like a chaotic knot of thread, lol. I was determined to make a few for people I thought would appreciate them. After about 3 hours of attempts I finally got one lopsided flake. I kept going and I have now made 9, none are perfect like Snowcatcher's, but I am hoping the people I share them with will simply appreciate that I tried, and tried, and I was thinking of them the entire time or I would have given up. {If you feel like you read this part before it's because you did, I posted about the snowflake a few days ago in my cancer daily posts but it fit so well here I posted it again.}
You can see more Fun Mondays by going to Life is Not Bubble Wrapped.
I find that when attempting stuff like that, the more I do it, the better it turns out. I'm sure your 9th flake was better than your first. I decided not to spend money this year, except on supplies. I'm terribly disillusioned with the whole retail Christmas scene, so I'm doing it all myself. The recipient will know that I was thinking of them all during the time I worked on their present. Even if it does turn out less than perfect.
ReplyDeleteThat quilt is beautiful. I'd like to try doing quilts one day!
I love the photo of your grandson on the quilt! What a great use of the sashing!!! Your mom makes beautiful quilts. And you make marvelous snowflakes!
ReplyDeleteyour cards turned out great, lovin the quilt and you snowflakes boggle my mind as I have never learned to crochet.
ReplyDeleteI think they are all great - you are very talented! :)
ReplyDeleteI think crocheting is easier when younger! I haven't even tried it in years!! The snowflake you did is beautiful!! As is...your Christmas Card! Very nice!! I did Shutterfly as I just don't have the time this year to make any Christmas cards....too many other things going on right now! Hope all's well Lisa!!
ReplyDeleteOh! I meant to say...your grandson looks like he is enjoying the "roads" on the quilt! Ha!!
ReplyDeleteI love how your grandson lines up his tiny cars on the quilt!! My son does the same thing. There is just something about those cars that scream "line me up."
ReplyDeleteI love handmade gifts....they have that special meaning that someone made this with their own hands for YOU!
ReplyDeleteI can not get enough of your snowflakes....they are just wonderful!
sometimes the simplest gift is the BEST gift. i think your card looks really nice. looks like your grandson is having a ball playing cars on the quilt. and i simply love your snowflake. i'm sure you've put a lot of time and effort into making it.
ReplyDeletehave a great night~
I like the way your Christmas card turned out this year. I think it means so much more receiving a handmade card/gift. And I'm sure whoever receives your snowflakes will appreciate all the hard work you put into making them. Afterall, they were made with love.
ReplyDeleteHandmade cards are the best and that quilt is gorgeous.. thanks for sharing!!!
ReplyDeleteSo cute, and love the quilt. I wanted to 'make' something for my daughter for her to play cars on, but we couldn't find the right 'fabric' that we thought looked good. bummer. Maybe another time. She drives on whatever anyway, and I guess that's the point, it would be a way to contain her, ha! Would love it if you'd play next week, too.
ReplyDeleteGood for you sticking with the crochet challenge--9th bound to be better than the first. Hand made and assembly line go together. I had a few nicely starched snowflakes a few years ago and loved how they looked among all the colorful lights and ornaments. Last week I was looking at some Christmas cards at Dear Little Red House blog and hoping that someday I'll be tech savvy enough to create my own. I appreciate the simplicity of your design. Be thrilled to get one of these handmade cards.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the quilt and the handmade cards. You did a wonderful job.
