The New Bed
While I was working on these log cabin blocks. . .
. . .my husband was shaping these hickory boards into a bed frame.
While I was pinning the layers of the joined blocks, batting, and backing, to make a quilt. . .
. . .my husband was planning the headboard of hickory and aspen.
While I was quilting my first quilt (wow, what an experience!). . .
. . .my husband was staining and assembling the headboard and attaching to the bed frame.
Together, we created our new bed.
Sidenote - All the photos were taken with my cell phone - the most convenient camera while crafting, lol.
Second sidenote - Although the head/horns had been hanging above the bed for about 4 1/2 years, the wire recently broke and the horns crashed onto us - they are no longer there, lol.

Yeaaaaaa...hope it is comfy...loving that comforter!
ReplyDeleteVery impressive work from both of you. Although I have yet to try my hand at quilting (yeah, like that's going to happen) I have done wood working and your husband does fine work indeed. And yeah, with that skull crashing down upon you two the saying on the wall should have read "Just One Lifetime...may be shorter than we expected."
ReplyDeleteFabulous new bed and quilt. You both did a great job with your projects and they look awesome. Pretty scary about that skull and horns though. Good thing neither of you got skewered!
ReplyDeleteYou guys are the best team. Love the quilt and the bed! (When we were young, we had deer antlers hanging over our bed. They ended up in the garage, then donated to Goodwill.)
ReplyDeleteWow … a true marriage bed! Amazing. I think it is a wonderful loving thing you did together. And I love the quilt -- all those colors!!
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful, Lisa. The whole thing, including the story.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful project you two completed! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteAww Lisa! How nice that the two of you worked on this together!! It came out beautiful!!! Congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteOh, the talent in your family! Love it, Lisa.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Happy 2012!
That is truly amazing - and really impressive! Do you take orders?
ReplyDelete:)
Beautiful quilt for a beautiful bed. Amazing! My mother always wanted me to learn to quilt, but I always thought it was tedious. After she passed away, there were tons of unfinished quilts in her closet, so guess what? She got her wish. I finally learned to quilt. I haven't tried a log cabin quilt, but think I may...
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh...I would hate to have those horns fall on me while sleeping. Scary thought of what harm they could have done to a body!!! Glad to read that they've been moved. [cool tho!! over a mantel of somewhere if at all the wire should break again]
ReplyDeletenice project! love esp. the first one...
ReplyDelete"just one lifetime won't be enough for us"...awwww makes me smile from ear to ear inspired by your beautiful creation and lovely thoughts...
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the horns didn't fall while you were in bed. The bed is beautiful and it is so fun when the project is shared.
ReplyDeleteWe always have brass bed frames at home and they are really nice. :
