So jealous! I spend weeks on end in a forest FULL of evidence of Pileateds. I hear them all the time. People come up to me and say, "Did you just see that Pileated Woodpecker? It flew away like 10 seconds ago!"
I am SO jealous. You have to be the luckiest woman in the world. I love these shots. Maybe one day before I go to the happy hunting ground for old teachers I will have the same experience. AWESOME way to start 2012. Hugs, genie
I too just catch a fleeting glimpse of one in the woods while hiking. At home we got the Acorn Woodpeckers. I have a suet feeder just like yours hanging from a tree and no one has taken the least bit of interest. So in my book, you are one lucky lady on two counts with this photo. Make it three for you got his picture.
I am squealing and jumping up and down for you for these captures...absolutely magnificent! I have never seen a woodpecker like that in my part of the woods! Beautiful my friend!
